Find out the truth behind common myths about custom homes!

Many people know about the amazing benefits of building a custom home, but unfortunately, many people also believe the myths that custom homebuilding is a bad experience. If you’ve heard these myths, such as that building a home is too expensive or will take too long to complete, it’s important to know that these statements are false. Continue reading for the truth behind common myths about building a custom home.

It’s An Extremely Long Process

You may have heard that building a home from the ground up is an extremely long process, but with a qualified, professional builder, it doesn’t have to be! Many builders can finish a new home in about six months, depending on the size, especially when they have years of experience working with clients to build custom homes. T&G Builders aims to build our homes as efficiently as possible while meeting our client’s expectations, so we offer complimentary design services that establish a direct line of communication between the client, our design staff, and our construction staff.

New Homes Are More Expensive

A major misconception about custom homes is that they are more expensive than pre-owned homes. However, the word “custom” doesn’t always have to mean expensive. By working with a custom home builder, clients have the opportunity to customize their budget and save money. For example, when designing a home, you can choose the size and layout, while focusing on the features you want, rather than buying a pre-owned home with features that aren’t important to you. Many homeowners also decide to renovate their pre-owned home with updated appliances or even a new floorplan, which can get very costly. Custom homebuilding allows you to design your home exactly as you want it, so there will be no need for renovations or remodels any time soon! In the eyes of T&G, custom means that we have the complete use of the cost spectrum, and do not have to adhere to one particular product as long as we maintain our standards of quality.

It’s More Eco-friendly To Buy An Existing Home

According to this myth, it is more environmentally friendly to purchase an existing home because the materials needed to build a new home are harmful to the environment. However, this isn’t the case, as new homes are built with the latest technology and eco-friendly appliances and materials, while old homes are much less efficient. Older homes will likely have poor insulation and are prone to having paints and sealants with high VOC content, which release harmful chemicals into the air. A new home will be built with recycled materials, high-performance insulation, and updated technology to make a much more environmentally-friendly building. At T&G Builders, the majority of our lumber is sustainably sourced. Also, most counties require that we install more vegetation in the landscape of a home than was originally disturbed.
