How to Turn Your Empty Garage Into a New Living Space

T&G Builders empty garage

Your empty garage may be able to become something brand new like a complete home office, gym, or entertainment center.

Every home has the potential to be dazzling and suited to the needs of its residents. However, sometimes homeowners may neglect to consider the possibilities for every part of their home. This can include the garage, which can be used to accommodate numerous other activities if you don’t want to use it for your car or storage. If you have an empty garage sitting there, you have available space you could design to be a new entertainment space, fitness center, home office, or more. If you are unsure what you might do with your empty garage, read on for a few ideas that may spark your imagination.

Build a Home Office

If family members have been settling for carving out workspaces in the family den or a spare bedroom, you may consider turning that empty garage into a full-fledged office space. By creating a room dedicated to work, you will have plenty of room to equip the office with a full-sized desk, file cabinets, bookshelves, printers, and more. The privacy afforded to garages is also beneficial for parents trying to focus on work in a busy household.

Plan a Fitness Center

If you want a dedicated fitness space, redesigning an empty garage may be an excellent idea. You can stock the room with your preferred exercise equipment and add a mini-fridge to stock water and sports drinks. With a home gym, you won’t have to worry about your fitness plans or equipment getting in the way of your other family members.

Create a Home Theater

If you and your family love watching favorite movies or shows on the biggest screen possible, with the best sound system, designing a cozy home theater space in the garage may be a great idea. You will have plenty of space for oversized, plush chairs and have plenty of room for storing your entertainment. Plus, if you love to crank up the volume, you can know that you won’t be disturbing others in your home as easily.

Design a Tiki Bar Hangout

There’s nothing quite like designing your own bar in your home. By placing your new Tiki bar in your empty garage, you can outfit the entire room to reflect the relaxation you desire in the space. You can fit a large bar and numerous bar stools, as well as create enough space for stocking your beer, liquor, glasses, and accessories. This can quickly become your new oasis at home.

Create a Standalone Guest Room

If you don’t have a guest room, you may consider remodeling your garage to create a separate living space for guests, in-laws, or older children. This can be especially attractive if your garage is detached from your home. If you want to initiate a more extensive redesign, you may consider adding a second floor or installing plumbing to facilitate a new bathroom in this standalone apartment.

If you aren’t sure what that empty garage may become, evaluate the space with a T&G Builders home designer to determine your options. A garage redesign may be just the thing to add new life to your home.
